The second instrcutor we are going to feature on 'background check' is Katie. If you aren't a night owl, or a weekend warrior, you are missing out on one tough chick. Keep reading to catch a glimps into Katie's life- these questions are the real deal, and one's I am sure you have been dying to know the answer to. Everyone, meet Katie:
What is your Zodiac sign?
I am a Sagittarius. No doubt about it. We have to say, we think this is a pretty spot on description of Katie. Typically categorized as independant, adventure seeking, encouraging and positive, well adjusted, and...unemotional?? While it is true Katie has her sh** together, is beyond encouraging in the saddle and out, and loves a good thrill (for real...she's dog sitting 4 dogs this weekend, in an apartment...God bless you Katie), we have never seen her cry, but that's not to say The Notebook wouldn't make her shed a tear.
What do you do when you are not in the saddle- for work and for pleasure?
I work as a trial attorney at a downtown Boston firm. I practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Texas (if you can believe it!), representing a variety of commercial clients. Its challenging work and I love it - especially my time in court. When I'm not teaching or working I enjoy spending time with my husband, Heath, (we just got married last August) and dog Rooney. Right now, we are looking for a house so that takes up most of our time. Anyone selling a house?? Help a sista out!
What is one thing you cannot leave the house without?
My water bottle! I can't go anywhere without it! Well...Katie.... remember that one time you left it at WheelHouse- but we appreicate your love for staying hydrated- we know that was a tough few days for you!
What is your all time favorite movie?
I don't have an all time favorite movie, but I am a sucker for any well made sports movie. Something about the overcoming adversity to win the big game story line gets me every time. See...a definite Sagittarius- very positive and encouraging and adventure seeking- I just have to wonder if she gets emotional at the end of Remember the Titans or Miracle...something has to crack this girl!
Favorite quote or song lyric?
"The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing."-- Blaise Pascal
It just resonates with me. In my life everything is hyper rationalized. Sometimes you just have to go with your heart and not think about whether something makes sense.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a doctor growing up and was actually pre-med in college until my junior year when I decided I preferred law. I'm one of the only people I know with organic chemistry I and II on their transcript as an "elective." :) YUCK! but at least you know you are in good hands when you are in the saddle with this smarty pants!
What is the best advice you have ever recieved?
"Take time for yourself." Thanks, Mom! I am forever going 100 miles an hour with work and family and everything else in my life. I often spread myself too thin because I have trouble saying "no" to anything. But, I think its important to take a few minutes every day to do something for yourself and make yourself a priority. You have heard us all say it, while you are in that saddle it is your 45 minutes. Nothing outside the doors matter- devout your whole self to it. You will be better mentally and physically for it!
Hills or Sprints?
Hills! I love that feeling of strength with each pedal stroke and pushing myself to turn that resistance knob to the right just a little bit further. Sorry guys....at least we will all have nice, toned thighs for summer!
What is your favorite workout when you are not in the saddle?
I played soccer in college and still love to play. There is also nothing better then a long run to clear my mind after a busy day. But I'm up for any exercise as long as I walk away breathless and sweaty! While I just can't get on board with her long run idea (sorry to my runners- I've never gotten that so called 'runners high' unless it's the feeling of pure death, then I have had it often...too often) she has my full support on anything that is going to make us sweaty! You need to find a workout that works for you. Something fun, motiviating and effective. Once you find that, there is no stopping you!
Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate! Dark chocolate to be specific. Love it! We had to leave you with the most hard-hitting question of all, and her answer did not dissapoint. All about the chocolate, and dark chocolate--you go girl, good for the taste buds, good for the heart, its basically like eating kale.
And that is Katie in a nutshell! She is no joke, but she will guide, support and stay with you the entire ride from start to finish. You can catch Katie Tuesday nights at 6:45pm, Wednesday nights at 6:15pm and Sunday mornings at 9:15am. If you haven't taken a class with her yet, you need to see what you have been missing- and she is rreeaalllyyyy accomodating with song requests...right Megan? ;)
