background check- caitlin papagno
If you aren't an early bird- like 5:30am early- you may not have yet had the luxury of riding with WheelHouse instructor Caitlin Papagno (and let us tell you, you are missing out!) As part of our new blog series 'background check' we will be highlighting each of the amazing instructors so you get to know them a little better, get a peek into their lives, and maybe even entice you to try a class with them! We asked Caitlin a series of hard hitting, show stopping questions we think would put Barbara Walters to shame...see how she responded!
What is your Zodiac Sign?
I am just about a perfect textbook Taurus! For those of you who don't know, a Taurus is typically described as dependable, patient, generous, independent, stubborn, creative, persistant, driven, and a master in the art of seduction. We can vouch for most of those- that last one we will leave up to her fiance, Tim to decide ;)
What do you do when you are not at WheelHouse- for work and for pleasure?
I work as a Senior Accountant for Jones Lang LaSalle Construction in Boston. I handle all aspects of the finances for the large commercial projects throughout New England. When I am not teaching or working, lately it has been all wedding planning! I am getting married next fall, so it has been a lot of the planning and coordinating the past few months. A wedding...you know what that means- don't be surprised if Caitlin's arm songs get kicked up a notch...gotta have those toned arms in your wedding dress!
What is your workout must?
Hands down, music and mindset. Music, for me is so huge!! I probably put in about 2 hours daily listening to music and finding songs that I love. I want my passion for each and every song to resonate with each rider so they get that feeling of mental toughness to push past their physical limit. When taking a class, this is just as important to me. If I don't like the music, it can totally throw off my whole workout- so it's gotta be good!!
Whether I am teaching or taking a class, I absolutely have got to get into the mindset to know I am there to work, and work hard. My mind is always at 10 different places at once, so I really take the time to focus and prep myself mentally before I teach each class, I even do a little pump up dance! Check, check, and check. Music is what not only drives the workout, but really drives WheelHouse. It may seem like putting together a playlist and making everything flow is easy- and if it appears that way we are doing our jobs right, but its a lot of work! It's counting BPMs, its mixing terrain, its knowing when the beat will drop and you have to sprint. Instructors put a lot of outside work into their playlists to make sure they know the music inside out, and are ready to deliver you the best possible, and seemingly flawless class. With that, we know music gets you going, so if you ever have song requests, be sure to let us know- we will find a way to work them in and maybe even deliver a never before heard remix!
Favorite current song and/or artist?
AH! This is SO hard!!! Flosstradamus. You can check them out here!
Favorite quote or song lyric?
"There comes a time in your life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama and the people that create it, and surround yourself with the people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus solely on the good. After all, life is too short to be anything but happy."
- Karl Mark
Pizza, pizza, PIZZA...YUM!!! Thanks to Caitlin's repsonse on this, I had pizza for dinner last night. But I think we can all agree with her- its just about the perfect food! Added bonus- it can help you carbo load for class!! Always see the glass half full ;)
Best advice you ever recieved?
"Always listen to your inner self...better known as your gut feeling. Wish I had done that more." It is so true- you know what is best for you, don't doubt yourself. Not in life, and not in the saddle, trust the feeling and go for it!
Sprints or hills?
Hills..Mmmmm- I love the struggle and breathlessness when I really turn that tension up. (I don't know I am still thinking about pizza). Us too Caitlin, us too.
McDonald's. Work hard, play hard. Treat yourself every once in a while. Life is all about the balance.
Bieber or no Bieber?
If you can believe it, I hardly ever listen to the radio so I don't really know what he sings. "Baaaby, baaaby, baby", is literally the first thing that comes to mind, and I'll admit, its a little catchy. But, I think I'll say no to the Biebs. It's not to0 late to say sorry, Cait...
So there you have it! Caitlin in a nutshell. Now that you know a little bit more about her, she will expect to see each and every one of you at 5:30am Tuesdays and Thursdays. BUUUT...if you still can't set that alarm, you can catch her in the saddle for 2 rare apparences- Sunday 12/20 at 9:15am and Tuesday 12/22 at 6:45pm!
